Dear Bunny 009

Bun,

Your instinct to scavenge is puzzling. When I let you out to play in the morning, you always go straight for under the coffee table. There, you find your bag of kibble which you unceremoniously bite holes into. And then you eat the scattered bits of kibble on the floor. All this when you have greens and a bowl full of kibble in your house.

You make such a fuss that I decided to help you yesterday. It must have been nice to poke your head in the bag and nom away.

I will never understand your ways, dear Bun.

Love,

L.

Dear Bunny 007

Dear Bunny,

I'm sorry I didn't wake up early enough to feed you. Thanks for making noise at me, that always lets me know.

You are the reason why I wake up some days now. I look forward your binkies.

Please don't stop reminding me of how awesome you are and don't stop loving me.

Love,

L.

Dear Bunny 006

Dear Bunny,

Getting stuck behind the bookshelf in the office was not a good idea. How careless was I to let you out without remembering to close the door.

I forgot and it was quiet and panic set in. You were gone. I couldn't find you. So I squealed to get your attention and there you were. Stuck.

Did you run from me because you were afraid I'd hurt you? That wouldn't happen. Even after I rescued you, you were afraid.

I'm sorry I yelled at you.

I was so scared. Thanks for showing me you still love me despite my anger.

Love,

L.

P.S.- Your paws are so grey. Was this your plan to get me to sweep behind the shelf?

Dear Bunny 004

Dear Bunny,

We know you hide food underneath the squeaky Tigger teddy. It is not a secret.

We will never not feed you, know this. I can imagine nature compels you feel anxious about securing your meals for later. But you do not have to store food. Oma and Abba will always feed you. Even when we say we will punish you for being naughty and send to bed without dinner.

You will always be fed.

You show much care to Tigger, who never makes a peep; licking and grooming him, fighting anyone who will try to take him away from you. I'm certain he appreciates it. In turn, he protects your food. I admire your friendship.

Love,

L.

Dear Bunny 003

Dear Bunny,

You sleep so cutely. Flopping down on your side unceremoniously after licking your paws aimlessly. I wonder if your rabbit mother did that when you were young to get to sleep.

You seem to like it when I groom you methodically in a similar way.

But you only sleep for small snatches of time. You must always been on alert. There are no predators here, you are safe.

I want you to know that you are safe.

Love,

L.

Dear Bunny 002

Dear Bunny,

What exactly are you building in the hallway?

It sounds very industrious.

I'm glad your bun-father and I decided not to chuck those Ikea boxes so that you can have your fort.

Love,

L.

Dear Bunny 001

Dearest Bunny,

I know you do not understand but I want you to know that I love you. I love you so much that I didn't yell when I woke up to find that you dragged you food packet close to your cage and bit a hole into it. And then helped yourself to breakie. I watched you whoop and binky at your accomplishment without punishing you. You were so proud of yourself.

You prove to me and your bun-father that you are smarter than we've ever imagined every day. You have trained us to feed you treats when you make your eyes big and cute. You trained us. You are a master.

And we are helpless to your charm.

Thanks for bringing joy to our lives.

Love,

L.

What is all of this for?

I am amused and horrified at the amount of crap people put out into the world. Most people want to get an award for showing up and I don't understand why this is okay.

While I'm not talking about those who have challenges that prevent them from experiencing life on the average as those in the US, I'm talking about the average person. We have Instagram that allows us to document our utterly boring lives and rewards mediocrity with pats on the back and thumbs up. Everyone is co-signing on the average. A coffee drink, putting an outfit together, eating a "sinful" food, going to a music show--these are the things that seem to win out. Creative endeavors are also celebrated but are sometimes overshadowed by mundane, average and boring parts of a person's life.

Why are we do proud of the mundane parts and feel compelled to share it?
